The ITIL® 4 Managing Professional transition module is designed to allow qualified ITIL v3 professionals to easily transition across to ITIL 4 with just one course and one exam. Upon successfully passing the exam you will gain the designation of ITIL® 4 Managing Professional. In addition to fully preparing you for this exam, this 5-day transition module will provide you with a thorough understanding of how to create, deliver, and support services and drive stakeholder value in the ITIL® 4 context.

The ITIL® 4 Managing Professional Qualification

In the new ITIL® 4 scheme there are two professional qualifications: Managing Professional (MP) and Strategic Leader (SL):

The Managing Professional is the next level of ITIL 4 to be released after ITIL 4 Foundation.  It targets IT practitioners working within technology and digital teams across businesses and provides practical and technical knowledge about how to run successful IT-enabled services, teams and workflows.

ITIL Managing Professional comprises 4 specialist modules:

  • ITIL 4 Specialist - Create, Deliver and Support
  • ITIL 4 Specialist - Drive Stakeholder Value
  • ITIL 4 Specialist - High Velocity IT
  • ITIL 4 Strategist - Direct Plan and Improve

The last module ITIL Strategist: Direct, Plan & Improve  is common to both the MP and SL streams. For those new to ITIL, the specialist modules will all be available to be taken individually according to needs (once Foundation has first been attained).

For those already well-qualified in the ITIL v3 scheme (holding 17 or more credits) the ITIL 4 Managing Professional Transition Module has been designed to take into account all your existing knowledge and to provide a straightforward way to transition your qualifications into the ITIL 4 scheme with just one course and one exam.

Learning outcomes

The Managing Professional Transition covers 30%-40% of:

  • Foundation
  • Create, Deliver and Support
  • Drive Stakeholder Value
  • High Velocity IT
  • Direct Plan and Improve

It is mainly focused on the new areas in ITIL 4 with very little content related to practices. Candidates who want to understand practices in detail should read up on these in their own time.

The Managing Professional Transition provides experienced practitioners with the MP designation but does not fully certify the same detailed level of knowledge. It is recommended that candidates also read the ITIL 4 publications.

Who should attend

The ITIL 4 Managing Professional Transition course is designed for

  • Practitioners with significant experience in IT service management who also have 17 points or more on the ITIL V3 scheme
  • Those holding ITIL expert, even if achieved via the previous bridge exam
Scenario 1: I am ITIL v3 Foundation certified and have obtained two or more ITIL v3 Intermediate level certifications.

Recommendation:
Continue with more ITIL v3 Intermediate modules to obtain at least 17 credits (including v3 Foundation), to be eligible to attend the transition module Managing Professional Transition. You will be awarded the designation of ITIL® Managing Professional when you pass the Managing Professional Transition module.
ITIL v3 Intermediate modules will be available until 2020, date to be announced by Axelos and Peoplecert. For information on dates please contact ALC Customer Service.

Scenario 2: I am v3 ITIL Expert.

Recommendation:
Take the ITIL Managing Professional Transition module to achieve the ITIL® Managing Professional designation.
